A report surfaced indicating that Russia tested the S 500 air defense system in Syria. The S 500 represents its newest system Russia dubbed as Prometey for the Latin “Prometheus”.

Russia’s daily Izvestia published an article claiming that, during the tests, the Russian military identified “certain problems” with the equipment, which it claims it quickly fixed. The article claimed the tests successful. Until more details break the light of day, the world should consider “successful” with a grain of salt.

Lieutenant General Aitech Bizhev told Izvestia the tests the Russian military conducted on Syrian soil aimed at managing the operation of all the S 500 components. Bizhev said the equipment “is tested in harsh technical and climatic conditions.”

TAKE RUSSIAN CLAIMS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT

Russia claims it began production of its S 500 in June of 2019. So far, the technical data Russia is claiming pegs the operational range of the system at 600 kilometers (373 miles). Supposedly, it is capable of destroying stealth aerial objects and supersonic warheads. Russia claims it could simultaneously shoot down up to 10 ballistic targets flying at 7 kilometers per second.

Until more details break the light of day, the world should consider “successful” with a grain of salt.

The tests have provoked strong reactions overseas. Russia has used Syria as testing grounds for its weapon systems. Such tests have led to the deliberate targeting and the killing Syrian civilians in underground hospitals, in elementary schools, and in busy open markets where mainly women and children congregate.

Russia conducted the tests in Syria because the U.S. fifth generation stealth F-22 and the Israeli F-35 are active over Syria detecting and fighting both ISIS and Iranian terror. It is not clear whether the S 500 is a “stealth” killer.

During the tests Russia did not fire any missiles because, according to its military, the tests concentrated on detection and performance.

Russia said it will not sell the S 500s “for any amount of money” in the near future. It claims it is primarily developing the S-500 for the defense of Russia only.
