A dear friend of mine and I live in a zip code where a spring breeze in October of 2008 was considered a gift from Obama. Upon visiting him this last week, he pointed out to me something really quite interesting. Where are the Obama bumper stickers?
In 2008, the Obama posters adorning neighborhoods were hard to miss on every other lawn; even the air was as feverish as I have never seen another Presidential campaign before. We all interned in our psyche Obamania during the last 3 months of the 2008 campaign.

But today, I have yet to see one lawn with an Obama poster or picture in this die-hard Democratic area of Montgomery County in the State of Maryland.
Furthermore, as you drive around, the Obama bumper stickers are missing.
In 2008, you could not drive 100 yards without reading “Hope and Change” on cars of all makes. Especially the Japanese auto makers driven by youthful spirits, housewives collecting their children from the many private schools in the area. or Church and Synagogue worshipers.
In a way, whether you were an Obama supporter or not, part of you was proud of watching America triumph once again by not only seriously considering to elect a black American President but actually electing him even though you were skeptical of his policies. I certainly belonged to this group of people.
Today though, Americans have replaced the skepticism and the triumph with a reality check.
After four years of mediocrity crowned by watching a President enjoy a record number of vacations, White House parties, and Golf outings, the American public wants an 18-hour a day President able to roll his sleeves for them and solve the many problems still asphyxiating Americans and their entrepreneurial spirits.
Is this an indication Obama will lose the State of Maryland? Not really. But it may be an indication other neighborhoods across the country may reflect.
