According to a summary of an internal U.N. inquiry seen by Reuters on Monday, the United Nations has found that Assad targeted hospitals. It described its findings as “highly probable”, which is diplo-talk for “certain” but with a duplicitous factor. The UN also accused Assad allies, which happens to be Putin’s Air Force of the crime of targeting specifically three healthcare facilities, a school and a refuge for children in northwest Syria.

Although the report covers last year, both the Assad and Putin’s regimes continue to target hospitals and schools. But the U.N. ignored these crimes as if to dilute the violence of both Putin and Assad. Shame on you United Nations.

The inquiry also found it “probable” that armed opposition groups or Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a jihadist alliance formerly known as Nusra Front have carried out a deadly attack on a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria’s Aleppo.

“probable” sounds like someone got paid to say it.

ASSAD AND PUTIN SAID SO

Assad’s forces, backed by Russia, began an offensive early last year on the last major insurgent stronghold in northwest Syria. Russia and Syria have said their forces do not target civilians or civilian infrastructure.

The same way Assad has also refuted the notion that he has gassed women and children. For his part, Putin said he does not dope his athletes or kill rogue agents on British soil using highly toxic weapons.

Shame on you United Nations

The Russian and Syrian missions to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the summary of the U.N. report. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres submitted it to the 15-member Security Council on Monday.

Guterres wrote in a letter to the council:

The impact of the hostilities on civilian and humanitarian sites in north-west Syria is a clear reminder of the importance for all parties to the conflict to observe and ensure respect for international humanitarian law. According to numerous reports, the parties have failed to do this.

UN SHARED HOSPITAL LOCATIONS WITH PUTIN AND ASSAD

Under pressure from two-thirds of the Security Council, Guterres announced in August that the world body would investigate attacks on U.N.-supported facilities and other humanitarian sites in northwest Syria.

The United Nations shared the locations of the U.N.-supported facilities and other humanitarian sites. Under the excuse that the warring parties would avoid these locations. Instead, both Assad and Putin deliberately bombed them.

Guterres noted that the members of the board of inquiry were unable to visit Syria to investigate. The Assad regime did not respond to repeated requested for visas. The attacks investigated by the board took place in April, May and July.

Fighting has calmed in the northwestern region. But only after Turkey agreed on a ceasefire with Russia a month ago. The fighting has displaced nearly 1 million people in Idlib.

A brutal crackdown by Assad on pro-democracy protesters in 2011 led to Syria’s civil war. It entered its 11th year on March 15, 2020.
