No Apologies for Supporting Israel

With Assad on the way out, let’s talk about issues dealing with our neighbors, also related to the new dawn rising in Syria.

Many have accused me personally of “going overboard” when it comes to Israel. The accusations mainly come from some elements of the Syrian opposition aided by the propaganda machine of decrepit Arab rulers like those governing Saudi Arabia.

Let’s start with a stunning statistic.

The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has, since its transformation in 2006, passed 39 Resolutions condemning Israel (That’s almost 8 Resolutions a year, or one every six weeks – but with a standard vacation time of two months, it is really almost one Resolution a month).

On Sudan, with more than 300,000 killed deliberately, and more recently in Syria with thousands of killings and mass grave disappearances, the UNHRC expressed “deep concern” initially even as the killings happened daily. Against the Assad regime, the UNHCR passed one Resolution of condemnation some six weeks into the massacres the Assads were committing.

This obsessive and unjust behavior reminds me of my own critics.

Israel lives in my neighborhood whether I like it or not. What affects one neighbor affects all the others; at least, if you embrace modern economic theories and the vision to build a prosperous trading nation like I do.

The same is true for Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. Any country, group, or institution that unfairly targets my peaceful neighbor, it becomes my duty to stand by that neighbor because it has a direct and an indirect impact on the economic well-being of my country (i.e. Tourism, as an example).

We have hope to build a great nation if Syrians have the foresight to understand this vision and embrace it. That becomes our duty when we return to Syria.

My support extends beyond Israel to commit to all my neighboring countries and I have traveled each country (Except Lebanon for security reasons) to extend Syrian future support and to seek peace with its people.

Funny that no accusations were ever leveled against me when it comes to those peaceful nations I have as well traveled to, including Turkey which I visited six times since 2005. The accusations remind me of the same obsession the UN has against Israel.

This Blog entry will not thwart further attempts by my enemies to close this chapter but that will not hinder the vision many of us have for a better Syria and I make no apologies to anyone.

Farid , i hope you were invited to some of the conventions of the Syrian opposition groups , you represent a lot of syrians regarding Isreal . Your stance and connections would be a great asset for negotiating peace with Isreal – post the butcher Assad era – .

    • Thank you for your kind words CanadianSyrian. Most of those meeting in the opposition today in Turkey and other locations will form the basis of our civic society and advancement of democratic ideas. The leadership to lead Syria will come from inside, outside, and some of the people who already govern but had no say into the Assad butchery. This explains the reasons why no one figure towers over the rest of those willing to serve Syria honorably. I will help in any way I can to advance the cause of peace and a new peaceful Syria and we need people like you to insure Syria never falls back into its past history under the Assads.
