If the Roman Empire fell to terror, outside barbarians who struck mercilessly its armies, what are Assad’s chances of survival from the same terror onslaught?

Wikipedia explains the fall of the Roman Empire this way:

The Fall of the Western Roman Empire (also called Fall of the Roman Empire or Fall of Rome) was the process of decline in the Western Roman Empire in which it failed to enforce its rule, and its vast territory was divided into numerous successor polities. The Roman Empire lost the strengths that had allowed it to exercise effective control; modern historians mention factors including the effectiveness and numbers of the army, the health and numbers of the Roman population, the strength of the economy, the competence of the Emperor, the religious changes of the period, and the efficiency of the civil administration. Increasing pressure from “barbarians” outside Roman culture also contributed greatly to the collapse.

Just interchange the words “Roman Empire” with the words “Assad Regime” and the paragraph remains true to its form. This should give the best optimists a glimpse of where Syria, and in particular the Assad tyranny, are both headed.

Today’s attack on Sayyeda Zaynab shrine provides us with a glimpse of how the Assad regime is going to fall. The terror attack took the lives of 71 people. 42 of whom were Syrian and non-Syrian regime forces standing guard at the venerable religious site. The others were innocent civilian bystanders caught in the war the way the innocent people of Madaya are caught in the same war. With this attack, the Assad regime suffers a huge setback and here is why.

Fighting terror has become more of a scientific endeavor than it is a military one. No country, no matter its resources, can defend against terror 100% of the times because it is literally a full-time job where the guardians have to have almost perfect intelligence, have to remain vigilant 24/7, and have to expect terror in new ways and forms all the time. It is an impossible task. Look how vigilant Americans are with regard to terror, yet San Bernardino proved that terror is unstoppable.

With this rude Sayyeda Zaynab awakening, maybe some Syrians, on the side of Assad, would come to realize how futile an exercise it is to stop terror while Assad is still in power.  The smart ones are just realizing that the Assad tyranny of 45 years and his continued terror against Syrian civilians will not go unpunished whether you have Russia on your side or not. If the Roman Empire fell because of the same conditions prevailing in Syria today and because of terror, Assad’s chances of survival are zero to nil. In fact, if Assad remains in power, the Alawite Syrian community chances of survival are zero to nil in the long-term.

A regime of psychotic Alawites, hiding behind two million innocent Alawites, terrorizing millions of Sunnis in a world where 350 million Sunnis live is not exactly intelligent. Maybe, when all Alawites are exterminated slowly, we should blame Darwin’s evolutionary national selection theory for their disappearance.

There is still time to reconcile the Syrian people among themselves and to save the Alawites from their psychopath leader. There is still a way to stop the madness of the war. That way requires that the Alawites stand united against Assad, call for reconciliation, work with all Syrians to form a new, all-inclusive government, and then together fight the terrorists in Iran and the terrorists of the Islamic State until the last foreign terrorist is out of Syria.

Otherwise, if the Roman Empire fell to terror, what do you think the Alawite chances are for surviving the Sunni terror? Today’s Sayyeda Zaynab terror act, the most secure shrine in Syria after that of Hafez al-Assad, should be a warning of things to come, and never stop.

If the Roman Empire Fell to Terror, What are Assad’s Chances?
